What does not work for the BMW E46
Restrictions for the I-BUS app on the BMW E46, E83, E85, E86
Some functions are technically not generally possible with the I-BUS app because - unlike to other BMW models - the devices are not connected to the BUS.
- Oil temperature and oil level indicator [except with CarSolutions "eKombi" module (only oil temperature), with DeepOBD (for engines M52TU/M54 also the "real" oil temperature) or with additional CAN interface (only oil temperature) for I-BUS app. See: Comparison of interfaces
- Control of the auxiliary heating
- Cornering light
- Folding the mirrors1
- Automatic kerb control (lowering mirrors with reverse gear)1
- DSP (as there was no DSP in the E46, E85, E86 as in the E38/E39/E53, you don't need a DSP licence for the I-BUS app or it doesn't offer any benefits)
- Coding "US Sidemarker" is not possible with the older models via app (complete coding of the LCM/LSZ to "US" necessary).
- Display of information in the speedometer (title, PDC, volume, etc.)2
1 Only works if the original memory module is installed. Coupe and convertible do not yet work due to connection via LIN-BUS.
2 The display of navigation information (distance to the next junction) only works with speedometers in the E46 from KMB_E46.C03 onwards (with the correct coding – only the distance to the next junction [enable NAVI_DIST_TO_JUNCTION]) – the BMW E83 is currently still being tested. Information can only be displayed if notification access is enabled (Android settings → Apps → Special access → Notification access → enable for ‘I-BUS App’). The following apps can display information: Google Maps, Here WeGo and Magic Earth (Magic Earth only sends information when running in the background!)
