Functional limitations by year of manufacture/equipment/model
- in progress -
Depending on the vehicle model, year of manufacture and equipment, there may be functional limitations in the app.
This can often be determined using the CI (coding index), which unfortunately can only be read (using the app or appropriate software).

BMW E38 / E39 / E53
light module (LM)
Coding and display of oil temperature/level are not possible with the LM. [applies to old E38/E39]
light check module (LCM)
Coding options in the LCM2 (up to approx. model year 98):
- CI 14 [1995]1: double pulse only
- CI 15 [1996]1: double pulse only
- CI 16 [1997]1: double pulse, DRL via low beam
- CI 17 [1998]1: double pulse, dimming brake lights, DRL via low beam or high beam, US parking lights, dimming indicators, set home lights
1Approximate year of manufacture of use.
Coding options for LCM3 (up to approx. 2003 model year):
- CI 18: like CI17, DRL ECE and Denemark, front indicators via parking lights
- CI 19: like CI18, plus LED rear lights
Coding options for LCM4 (from 2004 onwards):
- CI 20/21: like LCM3, plus removal of cold light monitoring for licence plate light and angel eyes2.

instrument cluster (IKE/IKI)
- pre-facelift models up to and including model year 2000 may not be able to display the fuel tank level.
- pre-facelift models may cause errors (no indicator display etc. in the speedometer). The error can be corrected in the app settings [ => deactivate the mileage query in the IKE-Funktionen ]
No BC / Low BC / High BC
Do I have High or Low BC?
Without BC (on-board computer) or with low BC, the following values cannot be displayed in the app:
- average consumption 1 and 2
- average speed
- range
No limit can be set or displayed for this.
As the display is also missing, the following displays are not shown on the speedometer display:
- volume (change)
- song title/radio frequency
- welcome text
- PDC distances
- oil/coolant temperature, speed, voltage
These values are displayed on the radio, sometimes as a pop-up toast.
In addition, malfunctions unfortunately occur when controlling the auxiliary heating in ‘No BC’ or ‘Low BC’ mode.
oil temperature
Every BMW E38/E39/E53 engine has a so-called TÖNS (thermal oil level sensor) installed, which is connected to the LCM. The current E39 M5 and some E53 models with the ‘is’ speedometer are exceptions.
Provided that this is intact, the oil temperature can also be displayed in the app.
Furthermore the oil temperature of the oil temperature sensor on e.g. the M52TU/M54/S54 engine can also be displayed - but this requires additional hardware. (eKombi or DeepOBD)
Others
Of course, the app is also unable to:
- control a parking heater if one is not installed
- display PDC distances if one is not installed
- etc.
BMW E46 / E83
oil temperature
Although the E46/E83 also has a TÖNS installed, the oil temperature cannot be read from it without additional hardware. (eKombi or DeepOBD) is displayed because the sensor is connected to the instrument cluster and not to the LCM/LSZ.
No BC / Low BC / High BC
As the display is also missing, the following displays are not shown on the speedometer display:
- volume (change)
- song title/radio frequency
- welcome text
- PDC distances
- oil/coolant temperature, speed, voltage
These values are displayed on the radio, sometimes as a pop-up toast.
auxiliary heating
As the auxiliary heating in the E46 is controlled conventionally (via a +12V signal instead of a BUS telegram), it cannot be controlled by the app.
turn signal light
As the fog lights on the E46 are only controlled in parallel, it is not possible to use them individually as cornering lights.
light switching unit (LSZ)
restrictions:
- dimming of lights not possible
- parking lights cannot be selected as additional indicators
- DRL via high beam only from CI 27 (approx. year of manufacture 1999)
- US parking lights on pre-facelift (until 09/2001) only possible if the LSZ has been completely coded to US via suitable software
Folding the mirrors
Without a memory module, the mirrors cannot be folded up or down.
So far, there have been a few coupes and convertibles where it does not work despite having ‘memory’.
Automatic kerb assist (lower mirrors)
Without a memory module, the mirrors cannot be lowered.
